Using animation in the classroom can be a great way for teachers and students to develop a more creative curriculum. Animation can be applied to all school subjects and build upon student’s skills. Since animation is a fun recognizable medium, students interact quickly with the subject.
YAA workshops are designed to enhance any curriculum subject you may choose. Below are a few examples of how animation can be used in different subjects and the skills students can improve upon.
Develop and explore new ideas. Creating an animation can allow students to experiment with ideas and new materials in a fun environment.
Explore colour and form. Building an animation set and characters can teach students about geometric structures, using complementary colours and composition.
Creative writing. Students will write inventive stories and expand their storyline. Students will create characters and develop their personalities. The stories will also allow students to improve their timing to create suspension and surprise within a story.
Analysis of student’s work and the work of others. Students will learn how to improve their work and comment constructively on the work of others.
Improve basic work patterns. Creating animation, using I.T, will improve standard I.T skills such as cut, copy, paste and undo, redo. File management will be learnt when creating, saving and loading documents.
Improve fine motor skills. Students will improve co-ordination of eyes and hands while using the mouse and computer to create images and animations.
Diversity and community: Learn about other languages and cultures in international themed projects. Students can also participate with international sister schools to create global projects.
